Perhaps the best-known spirit in the world, vodka is truly the neutral spirit. It is a smooth, clear liquid distilled to have no flavor, so it can mix effortlessly in many cocktails.
Vodka can be made from any fermentable base material, such as cereal grains, grapes or even potatoes! The base material is fermented and then distilled using a continuous still or pot still. High quality vodkas are filtered several times to remove any impurities.
A growing segment of vodkas are flavored or infused. These vodkas have added flavoring and, in some cases, a small amount of added sugar. They also frequently have an alcohol content that is 5–10 percent ABV lower than unflavored vodkas.
